Party is a 1984 Hindi film directed by Govind Nihalani, based on Mahesh Elkunchwar’s play. Set during a single evening, it follows a gathering hosted by art patron Damayanti Rane (Vijaya Mehta) to celebrate playwright Diwakar Barve (Manohar Singh).
Pearl Padamsee plays Ruth, a sharp and aging theatre actress reflecting on lost ideals. The film critiques the superficiality of the urban elite, especially in contrast to the absent revolutionary writer Amrit (Naseeruddin Shah).
